Smart Financial Centre - Building Maintenance Job Description

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Building Maintenance position will assist with all aspects of facility maintenance, upkeep, and operations of the facility along with daily event and non-event maintenance of Smart Financial Centre. This position will work in close conjunction with the Facilities Manager & Director of Operations to provide effective and efficient support for a host of full-time and part-time staff for Operations and Maintenance procedures.

As part of duties, the Building Maintenance will be responsible for coordination of all maintenance and repair to provide the best upkeep of Smart Financial Centre. The job duties require support of all event operations and non-event operations. Duties will revolve around all aspects of facility operations related to areas of maintaining and operating a multi-purpose venue during non-event and event periods.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have the ability and willingness to work long days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • 3 - 5 years’ experience in the entertainment industry or related field.
  • Must have good organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of facility setups for events.
  • Plan and perform daily, weekly, monthly, yearly maintenance and project work for the building.
  • Hands on experience with HVAC, Electrical, Lighting and Plumbing.
  • Communicate effectively to ensure building remains in a presentable and safe state for clients and guests.
  • Develop and implement efficiencies and improvements on an ongoing basis for the Facilities department.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word, a must.
  • Ability to lift at least 20lbs as needed.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Preferred Experience:

  • Energy/Building Automation Systems Management experience.
  • Understanding of code compliance.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products, Excel, Word, & PowerPoint.
  • Electrical power distribution understanding.
  • Mechanical operations and ability to develop new ideas for operations.
  • Construction documentation and ability to read and understand drawings.
  • 3 years’ experience in the entertainment (arena, stadium or theater) industry or related field.

Job Description:

  • Working with the Facilities Manager to assist with event load-ins.
  • Improve the maintenance operational systems, processes, and policies in support of organizations mission -- specifically, support better maintenance reporting, information received and repair planning.
  • Maintaining and performing routine maintenance on the building HVAC equipment to keep climate control in the facility functioning properly.
  • Modify and coordinate work orders through the maintenance management program.
  • Performing routine building maintenance. For example, but not limited to, air quality, plumbing, basic electricity, and lighting.
  • Understand and utilize all aspects of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems within the facility.
  • Applying any preventive measures to the building to reduce the risk of future problems.
  • Fixing any potential safety hazards to avoid injuries.
  • Maintains Facilities Staff’s adherence to safety standards.
  • Work with vendors to supply all goods and services to maintain budget-oriented facility.
  • Ability to make repairs to all systems as needed in an event facility to maintain operational readiness.
  • Work closely with Production to manage and support event production needs.
  • Coordination and policing of contractors to ensure that all maintenance work completed is satisfactory while following up on any deficiencies.
  • Work closely with Facilities Manager to ensure operations and processes are adhered to maintaining an exceptionally safe and customer-friendly environment.
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure.
